As I live on a boat, I have an inordinate amount of experience with this.
It varies between quite good and awful depending on where you are. And quality with regards to connections is really variable; on my old mooring T-Mobile and O2 were good but three was rubbish, and where I am now 3 is rubbish and T-Mobile doesn't work at all.
If you pay for a month's usage (it's a £10 voucher for 30 days), you can borrow my dongle to see if it works at your new house (that sounds impossibly dirty, doesn't it?).
