MIDDLE RING SHIFTING

If I wanted to run a triple chainset with a middle ring that was not ramped or pinned what problems would I have? Presumably the shift from granny to middle would be difficult but the shift from middle to big would be unaffected. Has anyone run this sort of set up? What problems did you have? Is it viable?

Not that much of a problem, really.
You will not be able to shift under full power onto the middle ring. But that is something you can easily get used to.

The chain may not drop cleanly onto the middle ring while shifting down either. Again, it's not difficult to work round. Until you do a rushed shift!

As long as the ring isn't designed for single speed you shouldn't have any issues
