I have soft spot for 80's steel, and you see a lot of it about. The bikes ride well, I have a Gazelle Champion Mondaile AB that I love...however my head has been turned by some mid-90's stuff, namely F Moser Leader AX in the classifieds. Slightly more oversized tubes, beefier fork, stiffer BB area, but still steel. Show me your mid-90's rides please! Educate about what was good at the time, just before Aluminium subsumed everything at the high end...

Yes you are correct there was a brief time just before steel faded away when there were some very cool designs. I have a Moser Leader AX an the work man ship is stunning, silver fillets and clean design. Also the Gilco tubed Master is very fine machine.

I apparently have never taken pictures of my Moser, will have to sort that later

Re:

merckx mx leader sounds to fit the bill with what you want to view,a reader here has recently bought

Re:

I really like 90's steel - probably more than 80's steel - although I do love the look of a nice lugged 80's frame. I'm no expert. My only "racing" bike is an early example of GT's Edge bike. Fillet brazed, triple triangle, dupont imron paint. Its gorgeous. Don't have any compatibility issues with modern drive trains. There are tons of great steel bikes from that era and some can be had for quite the bargain if you shop well.

la

My 753 excuse the modern wheels  Ive still got the mavic GP4's to go in it :D

My Ellis-Briggs Favori dates from 1996 built in Columbus EL tubing and Long Chen lugs. Handles superbly and is a good comfortable ride. The original owner had it built with the exact same geometry as a Duralinox. It is now built up with 90's Shimano 7 speed 105 with early STI's. I must take an up-to-date photo of it!

Re:

french rarity from a famed framemaker from the outskirts of Paris ( at least inside our borders  ) Alain Michel
rare on two points : Full Chrome & and Excell very light pearled tubing

probably from 1993 as only cable stops on downtube so for first Shimano STI from the 7400 DA group

I have a Moser Leader SC (I think that's the model) from the early 90's in the garage. I bought it to try and drag myself out of the 70's but didn't work LOL It was cheap because of a damaged seat cluster.

It has impressive silver fillet lugless construction (apart from the BB), the chrome is good and is perhaps the lightest frame I have at the moment. The Oria tubing is square fluted. The paint finish is technically pretty good, the rear top end is a very nice metallic pale green and then it all goes wrong at the BB area and front !!

The 90's is way too young for me but I was surprised at how well the Moser has been put together :)

Nice,

What size frame is that Shaun? I must say, I do get dewey eyed when I see a Gatorade/Chateau d'Ax Moser. Takes me back to where my interest in cycling really started. One G Bugno winning the Giro and seeing him at the Wincanton Classic in Brighton, 1990.
