Merlin Ti

Or not... read a bit more of the description.

Be gentle, I'm a total newbie here, and infinitely more comfortable hitting a squash ball than adjusting my gears... but really keen to know get a bit more info...

The aforementioned "Merlin Titanium" is my auction...

With what little research I've done and with the appropriately direct questioning that I've received on ebay - I'm pretty sure it's not a merlin, or titanium (much to the disappointment of the total bike geeks at the office)... but I kind of like it, it's shiny... and has fixed forks... I dont imagine it will sell, so I intend to tart it up to commute to work...

Two questions:
- am i wasting time and money putting anything into this bike? (needs a new back wheel, saddle and a full service)
- any ideas on what it is?

If I do end up keeping it I'll be taking the merlin stickers off... the irony of some body nicking it would be a step too far...

rude of me not to include a picture, to save a trip to the bay...

If it fits you I reckon it'll make a great commuter and should be absolutely fine off road too. It could be a Merlin albeit a Merlin from the shop rather than the titanium builder, someone may have used a bit of artistic licensing with some new decals. I'd say go for it, even with just a wee bit spent it would make a good looking and riding bike.

Hi mate, just get a work buddy to service it and ride it but i guess it depends on what riding you want to do.

If you just want to do some basic offroad stuff then it will be fine. How heavy is it by the way.

Good idea about the decals though

Have to say this is a much friendlier forum than the squash forums... folk there tend to be bit prickly with newbies...

Yep, frame is the right size for me and gears look in good nick. Back wheel is proper gubbed, but I'll want to put reasonably quick "puncture proof" commuting tyres on it.

The crank is "Ovation" but is stamped Marin on the back... so makes me wonder if the frame is Marin... Frame is in excellent condition, and when the mega heavy back wheel is off feels light.

I've quoted the serial number in the auction (WF96C2124) and shown the 4 digit code behind the derailleur... but my uneducated searches on google haven't turned up anything to indicate the manufacturer... just curiosity on my part more than anything else...

If your back wheel is as bad as you say, just get a basic 2nd hand one from here, lots available all the time. You don't need to get a top of the line, top dollar one. The chain looks a bit rusty in the pic, so that may want replacing, and keep it lubed! Other than that use it as a commuter, bikes should be riden after all
