Merger of Britain's and France's armed forces

Going in with the french I see as a good idea and not because of the financial aspect, maybe Britain might learn to say 'non', or even gesticulate in a British Agincourt way 'merde' when corporate run nations request help for commercial expeditions overseas.

hear hear....dunno why this tiny island nation of ours spends so much on the forces anyway....well of course there is a large historical element...and plenty of willy wagging as well.

We do nearly all of our trade by sea, which justifies some of it, especially awkward bits like piracy off East Africa.

Personally I think the nuclear deterrent bit is harder to justify. Terrorists don't care and governments know that going nuclear is suicide politically.
