if it's as late a frame as one chap suggested then it will be an MXL tubed frame. MAX was the forerunner and came out around the late 1980s.

nice frame!

not sure this is correct. the mx leader I raced on was badged MXL . the mxl tubing was a bit different to standard max.made to eddy,s spec,i think one of the tubes was drawn in a different shape to standard max

Re:

Hey guys, finally found the time to take a picture or two! Here she is in Wharfedale at the top of Kearby cliff looking toward Otley, I just managed to outrun the clouds so no rain damage 8)

She rides like a dream, totally cruising on the flat and on undulations (felt like I could sit on it all day, but 50 miles will have to do for now) and no flex whatsoever on the BB. I haven't really noticed any difference in climbing despite the supposed increased weight, my old Cannondale synapse in alu was probably sprightlier on climbs but was a lot more 'bouncy'. This thing just rolls over the rough stuff like nobody's business. Any large hits are turned into a vibration, I found myself aiming for rough road just to make sure it wasn't a lucky roll.

Overall very chuffed with it, the 9 speed titanium record groupset performs faultlessly, super speedy changing which is very affirmative, no checking where you are, it just goes where it's meant to!

Re:

that's a really nice looking bike - i would love to own a max/ mxl tubed frame - maybe one day . . just watch that stem of your's - it looks awfully high out of the fork!!

Thank you! It's a Nitto technomic so don't worry! I have had issues with bulging discs and had to go for a stem with a greater height capability to eases the stress on the lumbar area. Seems to be working well so far although i admit it doesn't look as good ;)

I also feel I am standing up straighter on the climbs as opposed to being hunched over. When compared to the huge headtubes on modern carbon frames, 90s race bike design certainly wasn't made for comfort!

Re:

when i first read your reply i thought,

"what does an extended stem have to do with faulty time trial wheels . .??"

:?

yup, you can't beat the oldies for comfort . .

Re:

I think it needs a run over the York - Harrogate tour route to give everything a chance to bed in. Best done at a leisurely pace with Theakstons in one bottle & Sam Smiths in the other.
Well done in completing it - lovely pics!

Cadre.org - don't use that... P is a code of Eddy Merckx Cycle employee, it has nothing to do with Professional, F is a series produced between 1994-1995 (your copy was built in summer 1995), the frame was repainted after 2001...
