Probably a bit of both..but the problem of skills retiring with their owners is a nationwide issue in the UK, our industrial base is thin. Anyone can put tubes together but when you bought a Mercian you were buying decades of accumulated skills. The average age of the workers there was very high - it was a boast from them in fact.

The name has huge value - if Bob Jackson can continue in some form maybe Mercian can too?

Rip mercian....sadly another skilled, craft company going to the wall in the uk.

But hey its ok, you can still buy your cheap china rubbish.....and bin it in 3 years.

Very sad. But at least it'll shove up the price of "used" Mercians. Great for sellers - not so much for those who had hoped, one day, to own one of their fine machines.
