I'll try to get some better pictures of the tubing.

I understand they only made about a dozen of these and only half of those were frame and fork.

I reckon people got wowed with Surly and their range of colours so they weren't considered flashy enough!

The frameset is a Merlin cycles Tange model - I had one exactly like this around 2005/6. Ended up being stolen within a couple of months of me getting it!

You're spot on. It is a Merlin Cycles one. My understanding was they were made in very limited numbers, particularly frame and forks.

I got mine some time ago from an old chap in Hertfordshire. He bought it brand new from an independent old cycle shop; alas, like many of the little ones, it's no longer trading. :(
