McRetro Help Needed

Iwasgoodonce

Old School Grand Master
I need some info on the Wee B@stards. The flying mouths, our old friends the midges. Despite being unpaletable to most biting stuff, I'm figuring they will spot me as non-Scottish and move in for the kill. What times of the year are they about? What parts of Scotland do they frequent? Is there anything that stops them?

My usual ploy of taking the wife with me safe in the knowledge that 99.999% of the little sods will head her way is not an option. (It's a plan that works. I've lost count of the number of times we've got back from somewhere with me biteless and her looking like a leper).

Cheers in advance.

Nobodys safe....................

Get a decent repellant from the chemist

or just dont wash like the gadgiees that hang around haymarket & drink loads of whitelightning cider, nobody goes near those dudes

Midges

Hi mate
Midges are usually out and about by the end of June.
They arent around when its windy.
The most effective reppelent is Avons Skin so soft. I spend most of my time outdoors and this is the best stuff yet. Though nothing is 100% effective.
The west coast is the worst.
They are no discriminating.
I have been all around the world in environments with many pests, parasites etc but have never come across something as shitty as these things.
You Brits say us Aussies have deadly critters everywhere like snakes, crocs etc but trust me they are nothing compared to midges.
Be afraid......................very afraid

Go to the coast the salt air and breeze keeps them at bay
Like Janie says ,the west coast is worse, dont know why ,or anywhere with standing water should also be avoided

If camping ,then a smoky fire helps drive them off, though you will return home smelling like an Arbroath fisherman

What parts of Scotland do they frequent?

Mainly the west and centre.

Is there anything that stops them? Errrr no

If camping joss sticks can help and smell nice too

I take the wife as they always go for her and leave me alone, and she now uses Avon skin so soft and says its the best thing she has ever used, the Royal marines use it so it muct be good.

Thanks for your help guys. I have camped around Fort Bill and Loch Tay before and have received some attention from the little gits. The noises coming from some quarters sounded a bit like some of the goryer scenes of Blade.

I've been under attack in the Lake District and the Ilse of Man too. The Scottish ones are worst with the Manx midges running them quite close.

Time to put in an order with Avon.

A fiver from millets gets you one of those wee head nets
Not great but if they're swarming it helps a bit
