Good for the buyer, if they were in good condition,

that's my price

and i think it is fair

quite rare and very good value wheels...

(Some crossrides here at 150£
Crossmax MK1 were very much higher level...)

and wait a bit
will be surly a very good retro specimen...

Lets stop comments on price now

or via PM please

Thank you.

Crossmax

I paid £450 for a NOS set last year, been offered £350 for them this past month, £160 is cheap if they are in very good condition.
Not many Ceramic wheelsets weigh around 1400g!

Hi all,
I was just curious what year the first Crossmax wheels were available? Was there only one model? Are there any distinguishing characteristics that allow you to identify MK1 vs later models?

It's not really this weight, all of mine were 1605/1610g without skewers.

1997/98 for the first model (2000 for the second :?: then came ST,SL,SX, SLR Crossmax).

Left on pic, what you call Mk1, right the second model (tubeless with flate spokes, a little bit heavier)

crossmax

Hi,

I can give some light, i think

first crossmax apear in 1996 for the Atlanta Olympic games
oversize ultra thin walls, integrated system

it is tubetype,

very lightwheight,
and when the wheel is true, it's very light to ride,
I will always remember my first CX with my first real frame
a Sunn exact columbus team, that was really fantastic

The problem with MK1
walls so thin that they very often go worn
with little cracks around the eyelets in the rear wheel particularly,
like other high level mavic rims,
weakening of aluminium,

otherwise, very good construction,
hubs much more better than modern ones

weight for the pair is 1560g

tubeless ones also have aluminium spokes, rim a bit profiled and shorter width.

crossmax first tubless and XL are much more stiff and strong on the rims
but bad on the hubs
with a weakeness on the freewheel due to the use of a teflon ring to save wheight
they are 100g heavier than MK1, particularly in the rim...

Thank you.

And sorry for my very bad english.

THIS set is in quite good condition, with no crack at all

Crossmax

There were 3 different models, at different price points, before they came out with Crossride, and other models.
My set weighes 1385g w/out skewers and has the very deep and narrow rims and reinforcing around each eyelet. some had extended rear spoke flanges, others didn't.
The early ones were much stronger with 28 "normal" spokes, as the spokes "gave" a little, while the modern bladed ones had no give and quickly destroyed the rims, too much stress over too few spokes.
A lot depends upon the weight of the rider as they are designed for pro race whippets and light bikes, 12stone would be about the max.
Fantastic wheels tho imho.
