Thank you for all your advice. Popped into condor this morning, as foz and a few others suggested, they are just dust caps. phew!

I will contact Mavic, thanks poweredbypies.

I know they are old wheels, but they do the job i want them too very well. the prospect of replacing them made me a little sad(what a sap).
