231´s are very long lasting and pretty light, got many years of use from them. I told a wheel building specialist that I wanted a lightweight wheel that would last me a while, etc.
He built up a wheel that was trashed in a matter of months. I talked to the owner and got nowhere. Called the rim company and they told me that this was a race day rim only meant to get a couple of dozen rides before replacement as was openly marketed as such. The wheel builder blamed me for not knowing this, even though he was the so called expert. So yeah, sometimes those lightweight rims don´t last that long.
