I'll keep them in mind. I'm on the lookout for a similar wheelset, 9 speed compatible freehub and without tyres.

No! 1999 M750 were the first 9 speed.

XT Hubs

I know they were certainly never sold as 9 speed, just convinced a mate had fitted some the same age as mine with a 9 speed cassette. Sure he said the cassette was the same size - just a narrower cog spacing & chain. Must have been newer ones!

IMHO I think M737 & 739 were some of the best hubs Shimano ever made in fact Ive got the entire remaining global stock of 37's & 39's tucked up safe in my man cave
