Marzocchi Bomber 80mm down to 65mm?

I need a new front end for my '93 bonty race: stem, bars, headset, brakes, wheels and fork. I got lucky and picked up a '03 Marzocchi Bomber MX comp coil with a long 1" steer. The fork is in great shape.

I know the '04 bomber comp can be changed from 80mm down to 65mm, but am not sure about the '03. It doesn't mention it in the '03 manual like it does in the '04, but there doesn't seem to be much difference in the fork between the two years.

Anyone know if you can go from 80mm to 65mm on this fork?

Thanks!

Once you take sag into consideration the effective difference between the two forks is only 10 mm, which will kick back the steering angle by about half a degree, not a big deal. I'd be tempted to just run the Bomber just as it is. Nice fork by the way.

^thanks for the link. Loads of info there.

Hopefully, there will not be a need for a hacksaw as the '04 model was designed to be able to go down to 65mm. I am not going to cut up a rare, good condition, quality 1" steerer fork. 80mm would be low enough in that case

Bikey, you are right, it will not make that big of difference as far as HA goes, but I am already tweeking the geo by switching to a non-Bontrager offset fork (which actually will probably help the handling). If I can get the fork travel to original spec without messing up the fork, then all but the offset will be correct. Plus, I plan on rebuilding the fork before I put it on the bike anyway so I a might as well try.

going to watch with interest as I have a 03 bomber mx comp, I too would like to use it as a 63/65mm shock.......no luck yet finding a nice judy XC yet for my 1996 stumpy M2

The hacksaw isn't for cutting up your own fork! Its for making the spacers used to lower the fork!
Adding spacers to the pumping rods is how marzocchi lower the fork anyway.i suggest you read the link more carefully :)

Re:

Basically you make 15mm spacers (to lower the fork 15mm) from some old handlebars. This is what the hacksaw is for!
Then you put these spacers above the top out springs on the pumping rods. This lowers the fork. It goes into greater detail and there are diagrams on the link
