You understand the idea of racing is to be at the front ? It's not a long way , it's from the right to directly in front of the guy in the middle . Absolutely everyone in the race would have moved across just as he did , just like the guy coming from the left did, who clearly didn't know cavendish holds a uk driving license so knows not to undertake

No great fault and certainly not worthy of all the fuss ; A guy leads , two other guys want to be in front , both pass on different sides and collide , but someone inevitably has to foot the bill .

Shame really as it's the other guys fault for not looking at anything other than his front hub .

at those speeds it is very dangerous to ride like that . he is lucky to escape uninjured , which is not the case of others riders .

More to the story

There is more to this than originally thought.
Yesterday (the day after the crash) there was a rider protest at the start of the stage. This was for the peloton to show Cav their displeasure at his behaviour. It seems the main problem people had beside his dangerous riding was the fact he showed his displeasure with Hausler by spitting on him while he was trying to get up off the road, total disrespect.
Really bad form, worthy of a ban in my opinion. He is a great sprinter and learnt how to win at a young age but now needs to learn how to lose, or at least handle the pressure when your year doesnt go right.

Perry your not allowed to deviate from your line in the sprint. This is what caused the crash, if you think that simply because your at the front you can block and barge well I think your thinking of 4X Cavendish quite clearly pulled across the bunch. Oh and I agree with al

Well, A Manx driving license actually.... But on a more serious note - much as I greatly admire Mark Cavendish for being the phenomenal athlete that he undoubtedly is, there have been many occasions that have lead me to think that he's not the best ambassador for his (and my) Island, let alone Britain as a whole.
He never seems to be gracious in defeat (not always easy, I know) and is too ready to bad mouth others when the sensible thing would usually have been to keep his mouth shut.

And although he has always had wonderful support from his parents (who I know and who are very nice people - his father works with my brother) he's sometimes been a bit hurtful in his attitude to them too (or at least I would have found it hurtful were I his father).

But it's easy for me to moralise, of course. Someone like Mark is under tremendous pressure to perform and sometimes in the heat of the moment the normal decencies of life can get pushed into the background.
And what do I know anyway.....?

Lance Armstrong used to be an enfant terrible also.

In his case a dreadful illness coupled with truly awesome dedication and hard work won him the respect of his fellow riders.

Cav has a long way to go, and to be honest his team mates / team manager should be having a quiet word with him.

The fact that Cav is succesful and 'clean' and David Millar has been banned for doping (I know it is not that simple but...) I smile more at a Millar 10th place than a Cav win.

Popularity has a lot to do with humility.

as a sprinter he needs others to work for him , he cant do it on his own .

I am sure his attitude will improve with age and experience .
