Yesterday our son in law finished the short version of the Marji, 62 miles, in his usual time of 14 hours. His vest was packed with energy bars, pizza rolls, energy gels and baby food pouches. The short version covers the hardest part of the trail. To get a buckle you have to do the hundred miles version in under 12 hours. It’s over 100 miles, just to keep you guessing when it will be over. Same thing with the shorter version, billed as 50 miles but it’s 62 to 64 miles as the route changes each year. You have to carry a lot of stuff because it’s self supported. There are now unofficial aid stations set up along the way, like the Worst Aid Station. They have bratwurst and beer. Three quarters of the way through a young gal has an ATV parked with pretty much a full bar of booze, but no mixers. There are other ones with soda and water. Food choices aren’t that good for racing. IMG_5098.webp
