if ies a marin, it will be stamped ib the dropouts.

i quite sure its not a marin because all the cables run on the top tube. thats definitely NOT marinish...
frame number would be helpfull.

Well spotted (my eyes aren't that good, maybe an old steel trek then. (I did ask him about dropout stamps BTW, no reply yet)

its no marin frame because of the cable routes. but it reminds me a lot of my indian fire trail. would be interesting to konw what it really is...

Just got e-mail from seller:

"IT LOOKS TO ME AS IF IT HAS SOME KIND OF PRIMER ON IT. THERE IS THE ODD TINY BIT OF SURFACE RUST AND SO I KNOW IT IS STEEL. THE QUALITY OF THE JOINTS ETC IS REALLY VERY GOOD (I AM NOT JUST SAYING THIS!) ON THE BOTTOM BRACKET THERE IS STAMPED YF99DO3103 AND 7TD" (his caps, not mine)

There was another company that had Zolatone frames in the early 90s, can't remember the name.
