Marin redwoods

Retro Newbie
Complete noob here lads so be gentle.Just picked up a marin redwoods hybrid believe its a 95 build..all seems to be origional. The lad i got it off said the chain skips a bit, have'nt had the chance to ride it yet so not too sure.Had a quick look over it and seems possibly middle chainring has a bit damage so maybe the culprit. The cranks are STX not sure if they are rc though as decals are worn....my question is are the middle rings replaceable?if not may just replace the whole lot as just gonna use it as a work bike, cheers chaps.

Re:

Red stem? probably '95 redwoods then.

The skipping could also be the cassette/chain wear or simply poorly tuned.
Take it for a spin and try go up hill whilst powering on, you will find the fault easy enough.
Yes stx-rc rings are replaceable, i can't remember the size though(bcd) probably compact but could be 110bcd.
When possible, get some pics of the parts posted up so we can have a look. Chainrings can be really worn before they slip, the preceding issue(shark-toothing) mainly causes chain suck.
Replacement cassette and chain may cost less than £20.

Thanks for the info appears to be the cassette.Think i got my dates for the bike wrong looking like a 96 model as its made up of stx and stx rc no red stem.
