They are made specifically for SS and fixed bikes where a fixed point dropout is being used. The half link offers more adjustment for correct tension of the chain, where the wheel is not able to be adjusted to tension the chain. Make sense?

Some have used standard BMX chains and a half link in the middle of the chain to get the right tension.
