Speaking of the Octagon, will be taking in the first show in Toronto?

No interest in MMA, really. Will be going to the Canadian Open when it's at the Hamilton Golf & Country Club next year, though. I can see Snoopy 1 circling over the course from my deck when they hold it there.

Oh.
Avid MMA fan here.

I'm more into K1, looks a bit more "civilized" imho........ and we're pretty good at it here in Holland

Yes, I watch K-1 as well, and know all about Golden Glory 8)
I don't find K-1 more civilized due to some of their freak show match making, pitting inexperienced boxers against world class kick boxers, and undersized fighters against super sized fighters. Not to mention standing 8 counts- much more traumatic to the brain.
In mma, when you are out, even for a second, the match is over.
I'm really a fan of all combat sports, and can find the beauty or science (sweet science?) in all of them.
Though MMA is my favorite, and not uncivilized, in the least.

So who is your favorite K-1 fighter? Hoost, Aerts, and alistair overeem here (though Overeem is from a mma background). Don't care much for badr hari, though he's incredible.

Aerts is my favourite, going strong on such a high level for so many years, will turn 41 this year and still a very tough guy to beat, most efficient high and low kicks.... can take quite a few punches too.
enjoy:

Yes, he had a great run this last year; though I'm an Overeem fan, it was a shame to see Aerts lose. Cool vid.

Just think of it.... Aerts won his first K1 in 1995, been in all the K1 end tournaments and reached the finals in 2010... Overeem is good.... but don't think he'll come close to these nr's

You're right about the freak shows sometimes.... think it has improved though.

.... not thinking about quitting either

Peter Aerts

Dear Friends,

I would like to thank everybody who supported me during the K-1 World Grand Prix. It really was fantastic to see how many people were behind me, rooting for me to earn my 4th K-1 Title.

I came close, but there are a lot factors that come in to play during a tournament. In the match against Sem Schilt I went all out. I used up all my energy for this fight. As a result I had none left for the final match.

For me, the match with Sem Schilt was the finale. He was the ruling champion on his way to his 5th title. Schilt has had a firm grip on the K-1 for the past few years, but now the odds are open again.

In the final fight I could not overcome the might of Alister Overeem. With him 100% fitness is required if one wants to have a chance of winning. He was the strongest fighter in the tournament and I would like to sincerely congratulate him with his first K-1 title.

Luckily, I suffered no injuries from the Grand Prix, and I will definitely come back to K-1 this year. I still feel strong enough.

In the next few months I’ll be keeping myself busy with my new gym, which opens in March 2011 in Enschede.

Again, I would like thank everyone for their positive reactions after the K-1 World Grand Prix.

Osu!

Peter Aerts.
