Williwoods---hopefully someone who knows the answer will reply but i thought i read somewhere the were only made to fit certain forks

They were made to fit specific forks, - there were Rockshox versions too, I believe.

i know westpine made ubrakes and this looks like a sort of ubrake, and if so would only fit bikes designed to take a ubrake

yeah, it's their 'Scissor brake' - a kind of cross between a U-brake and a Campag Delta

I know they did Manitou and Rockshox versions, but don't know if they were for specific models. ..They didn't fit my rigid forks BITD..
