Hi guys, I need a bit of help. I`ve aquired a set of Manitou 2 forks.

I have some questions:-

How do I replace the steerer tube for a longer one ?
How do I take them apart ?
Should they have springs or elastomers, or both ?
Can I get new elastomers/springs ?

Appreciate any help :?

You cannot replace steerer only, you have to replace the whole crown.
To take it apart, you'll need a long allen key which was supplied with the fork.
They have only elastomers but you can replace them with springs that can be found on eBay.

you can replace just the steerer,it is press fit into the crown so can be removed with a rubber hammer or a press,i know this because i did it a few weeks ago for my manitou three`s

Thanks for the information guys, appreciate it.

Just have to find an allen key, a longer steerer tube and get those springs off ebay !

If they're like my Mani ones, you can take them apart using one of those socket set allen keys and a long extension bar. You know, like the bits you get for electric screwdrivers – easier to find than a proper manitou allen key that's for sure :D

Thanks for that Crayons, don`t suppose you know what size is needed ?

careful using springs from ebay, as you lose all the damping, and go into hanebrink pogo mode. . However, I've had to do this with a set of mine, as there are basically no alternatives. ..
Steer clear of bits of PU hosepipe with a 6mm bore being sold as a suitable elastomer, funnily enough, these behave like a bit of hosepipe with a 6mm bore. Ok to use a a joining piece for my cars screen washers, but not inside my forks. .
