Manitou 1 Rebuild

Can anyone start me in the right direction for a Manitou 1 rebuild?

To begin with, how do I take the legs off - there's an ominous dry rattling going on inside... I have some spare elastomers to pop in.

The steerer is too short (natch) so if aynone wants to swap the crown unit/steerer for a longer one - let me know.

you need a long allen key to undo the legs .

Slim is the man you are looking for .

pop off the top caps , there are only o rings holding these in

then you will need the long allen key , to undo the bolts at the bottom ( inside the stantions/legs )

then all you do is pull them out

should end up with this

will resize some scans i got and post them up in a minute

Kwaka,

You'll probably find you have a 'puddle' of degraded elastomer in the bottom of your sliders and another small puddle in the staunchions (top-out bumpers). You can use heat to get it all out but I just scrape as much out as I can.

When you're re-installing, put the slider bushes and seals in place and leave the staunchion seals just off the bottom of the legs (held in place by the elastomers) so you can slide them past the slider seals and bushes. The staunchion bushes will slot onto place when the elastomers contact the bottom of the sliders.

Cheerz.

Yep these forks are good fun putting back together if you know how!
Those elastomers are mighty long though arent they!
How are those new ones coming along slim?
