guys...im new to this lark and want a set of hs11/hs33 to replace my xt cantis,my question is can i mount them without a booster or adaptor plate as most sets for sale seem to come without

Thanks

I ran with out a booster. What adaptor plate? I never noticed one of those on mine.

on a spindly steel/alu or ti frame you would probably want the booster. Tintin's trimbles are somewhat better girthed around the stays than a traditional frame that would reduce the flex from the brakes.

Having run Maguras with and without boosters you shouldn't have any issues, it does however depend on the ridgidness of your frame and how heavy you brake, some frames can cope with the pressure when using the arm attachments on the piston clamps alone, but if you want to upgrade to EVO 2 status with both Front & Rear booster plates you can still get them online. Or hunt around and purchase the single booster which comes in various guides, carbon, pressed alloy, etc etc. either way they are great brakes and once set up provide hassle free brakeing :)

its a gt pantera with standard xt cantis on it whats confusing me is the fact that most of the ones ive seen have a backing plate which the cylinders bolt onto if you know what i mean can i just bolt them onto the existing canti studs

Ok will try and help you out, weather you are using EVO2 boosters, or just Clamps and cylinders the fitnent is the same. The boosters actually fit onto the clamps the normal clamps with shoulder (part which butts onto frame) and EVO2 clamps which have studs for front and rear plates. Drop me a line if you need more info :)

Definitely run the braces / boosters on that frame IMHO, I've upgraded my 3 sets of maguras to the EVO II mounts and can report it's definitely worthwhile, and makes them slightly easier to set up!

The Evo II mounts consist of a stiffener plate behind the brakes and a brace across the front.

Definitely go for the Evo II adapter kit. Especially at that price! I struggled to set mine up for ages with the original fitting kit. The rotating plastic braces are a clumsy solution at best. The only drawback with the Evo II kit is it's all a bit chunky in the end. I still can't work out how the quick release works either. Thankfully I ride that bike so rarely I've not had to change a tyre yet.

Once set up correctly the quick release is really simple to use, what the issue you are having with it? Maybe I can help?
