I have an old easton MG60 stem in need of retsoration, Whats the best thing I can do with this.
I'm pretty good at spraying so might spray it myself, Any special primer?

It may need chromating first, which is better than etch priming.
See Magnesium wheel restorers from the motorsport world, as they may help. It is not (or shouldn't be) expensive.
I'll have a root around for a company in Kent that I recall.

while on topic, what about removing colour from magnesium parts. does the caustic soda trick still work?

I dont know, Im using sandpaper and then by the looks of it I am going to polish it up and probably stick it on a shelf

The rubber bung at the back has been pulled off and yes, It is in a bit of a state.

Not recommended as Magnesium reacts quickly with moisture in the air! It always needs to be chromated and painted or anodised.

Still searching for that place in kent which fixes mag wheels up.

yeh, i'm gonna paint it later... but what about removing the original colour?

Read here... http://www.magnesium-elektron.com/data/ ... 256SU0.PDF for technical info.
The usual methods of oven cleaner should work!!
Worth noting that I actually have my spare Mag alloy wheels etch primed after Calcium dipping. It keeps the water out, and they're ready for painting when I need them. The wheels needed putting on a radiator for a couple of days to dry them out before etch primer was applied though!
