Since we have done a bit of gravedigging, might as well stir the pot by chucking baked beans at the gravestone.

Magic gear is a waste of time as you'll spend too much time finding the right combination to elimate chain slack, and often you won't end up with a gearing you like, and should you wish to change gearing you start over. A tensioner is far superior, or just get a horizontal dropout frame.
