Although I'm still pretty sure a 9sp would work...

Hi Rob,

I drive a shortcage XTR952 (which was 9speed for the sakae of time-correctness ) on my KHS with 8speed Ti-casette and 7speed XC Pro thumbies - slick shifting without any problems - I dont think You need specific 8speed for driving 8speed

nope...I am using a 9 speed mech on an 8 speed set up.....and my pauls mech was running 9 speed til recently
