You can cut the threads down as well and I think can hold some STI gears shifters on.
Err rear and front mech bolts possibly, I used similar as the mech cable clamp bolt (be careful not to try and over-tighten and strip the allen key shaping off.

Depends where they will fit, but nothing that needs a good strong bolts.
 
As above, rule of thumb is don't use them top hold anything that will cause you to hurt if it comes off! No to brakes, stems, seatposts, bar-ends (ti's good for this stuff though 8)). Yes to bottle cages, shifters & brake levers, mechs, jockeys, mech stop adjusters...

You get the idea :lol:

Don't think I'd use stainless in a stem either unless I knew the grade - it's usually a lot weaker than 'normal' steel unless you get the right stuff :?

Now I'd best figure out exactly what I'd like other than 'all of them'... :lol: :wink:
 
Fair point about the grade of the stainless bolts. I get them from an industrial fasteners suppliers, the kind of place you go in and everyone has a steel rule and a perfectly sharpened pencil in their well worn overalls. I have used them for years with never a hint of any problem.

I did ask once what the strength difference was and I can't remember the figures but when I told them what I'd use them for they just smiled and told me not to worry. I seem to remember it was only a small percentage weaker than the regular steel bolts - but I could imagine their steel bolts would be far stronger than the cheap cack you find in most bike components anyway.

I will find out the grade when I buy the first selection and post it in the original post.
 
I can get coloured titanium bolts too (yes really!) but the price of them is very :shock: so I couldn't buy them without a full payment first. :-D

Just checked some of my SS bolts and they are A2-70 grade.

So it depends on what the grade is that you're replacing....

I think Raceface high end stuff uses 10.9 alloy steel so the reduction in stength would be significant. If a lower grade is used it would make less difference.

Remember the safety margin is already huge on these bolts and it would cover any tensile strength difference.

The higher grade stainless is stronger but less fatigue resistant so might not be great for bikes.

I think we should probably call a halt there though as

a) We've totally derailed your sale thread - especially as I think this is the point just before it goes totally geek and runs on & on (not that I'd mind that, I find it all very interesting :oops: :wink: )

b) I'm getting slightly aroused :shock:
