Lugged forks

Some great stuff so far. :) I forgot I'd posted this in the road section a looong time ago Plate crown Forks Some really nice stuff.

One of the reasons I've asked about lugged forks is that I took a punt on These I think I may have made a booboo though, I never paid too much attention to the description and now looking at the pics I fear the clearances may be too tight for a mtb tyre :?

Although (arguably) not as loverly as some of the examples posted above, I'm surprised no-one's mentioned the Raleigh U.G.L.I forks:

Funnily enough in that Bridgestone ad it mentions TR pioneering the unicrown, I've just read somewhere that Charlie Kelly coined the term 'unicrown'. Anyone have anything on that story?

I don't know more, but I do know BMXers had unicrown forks from at least 1974. I'm sure the general idea/construction method pre-dates that for a while at least. I believe the 1978 Lawwill Pro Cruiser had a unicrown fork that was essentially a BMX design with longer legs. Not sure what involvement Ritchey or Charlie Kelly had in it.

Also, though I'm fairly sure they didn't invent the construction method, I'm completely open to the possibility that they "pioneered" or "popularized" or named the style and helped it go mainstream as far as the USA-based ATB movement is concerned.
