Looking for a *practical* suspension fork for a Zaskar

Re:

people are saying 2.5" wide tyres etc... wide tyres are heavy and designed for off roading, why would you want that on a commuter? narrow and light with little tread for good rolling resistance is what you want!!

nice penny farthing you got there by the way  :P

Re:

Just a few thoughts on this.

I've just checked my SIDs and they have a recommended air pressure for greater than 190lbs rider weight not maximum.

The picture of a Zaskar running a 29 wheel is I think a late re issue model designed with suspension in mind [in this case a 100mm travel fork], so this might not be such a good idea with your '93 model.

Don't discount a carbon fork, it will have all the attributes you want, some suspension, zero maintenance and in painted form unattractive to thieves.

As others have said old Bombers would be a great choice.

Finally, if you work from home how far do you commute? :?

Because I want dual use and because most of my commute is on gravel.

Except for the part about the tread, no. Weight is irrelevant and wider is faster (or as fast on smooth roads, and faster as they get rougher.) My new Almotion 2.2s are racing bike tyre fast on the road and they lose damn on gravel.

Thanks, this is close to the list I had. For the tyres on the list I've looked at:

Schwalbe super moto
- puncture prone, lacks the grip for dual use

Hookworms
- not enough tread off road

Maxxis larsen tt
Kenda small block 8's
- Two of the tyres I'm looking at

Kenda k-rad
- Not sure what is, but if "k-rad" is in big letters I'd be embarrassed

DMR moto
- The Moto Digger is one of the front runners. From pictures it looks like it has a lot of volume, people really seem to like it, and its cheap to try

..The Holy Roller I hadn't thought of.

Also: Mr.sbike is Da Man for riding pure slicks in the snow; is he still alive? And "Nokian Hakkapeliitta Extreme 296" is the coolest tyre name ever.

...I may also have found a fork that has suitable trail for a Zasixtyniner, so that may be back on the table... The Table Of Madness!
