Looking for a good 1" threaded headset.

I'd go for a Shimano 105 cartridge style, very smooth headset and in black and silver finish.

Just a quick query, apologies for jumping in, is the Stronglight A9 - in black not available with roller bearings?

Personally I would go with Campagnolo Record. Unbelievably smooth, plus the grease ports in the lower race mean they are trivial to maintain.

What about velo orange? They have a number of polished or silver 1" threaded headsets on their site if you are looking for that retro classic look.

They are nice headset, but I'd prefer black, as I am definitely not looking for a classic look

Cane Creek classic 110. They still make it in silver but I think they discontinued the black. You may still find a black one on e-bay though.
