Sorted Looking for a 80 mm suspension fork 26" with v-brake bosses

Ideally looking for Marzocchi bomber x-fly 80, thought I'd got some but it turned out to be a false alarm.

Given the age of forks I'm looking at I'd much prefer Marzocchi to other manufactures due to their reliability and availability of parts.

Anyone have something?

Hey bud, if no one here has something for you check out ebay as there are currently several decent Marzocchis there under 100 bucks. This one in particular looks quite nice (I ain't associated with the seller in any way, just looks like a really good condition older fork):

If you wanna see the others do a search for "Marzocchi" in cycling equipment and sort by price+shipping low to high.

IIRC both the generation as the one listed above, and the previous ones (BAM-type with the bolt-on arch) can have their travel reduced by placing a 20mm spacer onto at least one of their "pumping rods", you can usually switch between 80 and 100mm and then between 110 and 130mm that way (well suppose you can bring a 130mm one down to anything you like, like how some ppl bring the newer 44 models from 140mm down to 100 by stacking spacers.

Hi Rob, thanks for the message.

Honestly I hadn't considered spacers, are they very specific or is there basically one type that are they generally applicable to most Marzocchi forks?

I'm guessing there are limits on how many you spacers you want use in a fork though, I think I can extend my search up to 100 mm/110 mm then.

Spacer dimensions would depend on the dimensions of the bits inside the respective fork. But honestly if the fork ain't topping out hard you won't need brutally strong spacers and can make yourself some out of suitable plastic tubing. Actually the pumping rods of a 2003-model Dirt Jumper fork I used to have were in fact made of plastic, and that's essentially the only thing holding the fork together 🙄 So a suitable plastic spacer around a metal rod will have zero issues in strength I'd think.

How old are you looking for models? I have a Marzocchi 44 that is 100mm travel reduceable to 80mm via a spacer supposedly available cheap from Windwave, the 44s also have bosses for V-ees. On my particular fork the cartridge damper is dead so I'm offsetting that by running extra thick oil in the other leg and it's actually working quite well for my needs, but I'm running this on a singlespeed that I'm using for commuting purposes around town and I honestly haven't had a chance to trail-test the fork at all. But point is the 44s may be something for you to look into, but do keep in mind they're all Taiwan-made in Suntour's factories for better or worse.

All this said, I'm thinking this beauty here is what you're after, right?
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Marzocchi-bomber-forks-z3-lite-old-school-retro-/224709181125If yes then make the guy a good offer (I've bought two forks like that for 70-80 if you're looking for a starting point) and get it done 👍
Edit: my BAMs are a 99 Z1 with dual coils and a 2000 Z5 with dual positive air springs but likely coil negatives. I've not owned a Z3, but this one on ebay is definitely dual coil version as it's adjusters up top are identical to those of my Z1. I'm guessing it'll be the SSV damping then, which from my experience is stupidly reliable.

Oh, they're pretty nice. I sent a message to the seller. Actually I came across these, the description of their action is a bit vague, "dirty on it" but they look in good nick.

The cartridge bull is only with the newer Taiwan-made models IIRC. So anything that has the legs with a brace over the tire that looks similar to these 888s that I just snagged should have either SSV or HSCV both of which are proper open-bath systems and not sealed cartridges.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Marzocchi-888-Downhill-26-Forks-/284545621887From there on out it depends on what you need the fork for. The 2003 and newer models should be 32mm stanchions so bit stiffer than the older ones that all run 30s. But at the same rate my Z1 BAM is 130mm version so pretty tall and even with a slightly worn left bushing it still goes exactly where I point it. So personal preference plus what you can get a deal on?

Okay he accepted, I'll be picking them up in a couple of weeks.
Will do a build post in the new year once I have everything together.
Thanks for your help and advice Rob, have changed the title of the thread to sorted :D

A couple of weeks? Goodness man, how can you wait that long? 🤣

But yeah, good to hear it's all working out for you, hopefully the fork is indeed as nice as it looks👍
