I'm not a fan of pointless innovations to drive marketing/sales, but i do like the way some components have been refined. Some people, me included, want a bike that can be ridden fast across a mixture of surfaces over long distances. Things like the Vecnum stem help. 100g of extra weight for 30mm of very plush, tunable travel.
That said, I've given up private mechanic work because I am so sick of the constantly evolving set of "standards" for bbs, headsets, proprietary seatpost shapes etc... and don't even get me started on idiotic internal cabling routed through bar, stem and headset.
