Sorry to hi-jack the thread boys and girls, but in the pics above, the XT brake levers have little shims in them (holding the cable pivot in place) i think they were you you could adjust the cable pull between V brakes and cantilevers, does anyone have some spare or know where i can source some from please as ive just fitted XT sti levers onto my caldera and havent been able to figure out why my brakes are so spongy and rubbish, theyre missing those four shims :cry:

Don't know where you can get the legit part, but what I did when I encountered the same issue as you, was to cut the required amounts of material out of the rubber strip you get with cycle lamp bracket sets.

Exactly the right thickness and if you get the shape right they are not going to fall out/jam the lever(!) Safety first

I did think of using something to do the job but i dont know how much force is applied to the spacers on braking, thinking about it possibly not too much really, it just needs to be something fairly sturdy to take up the slack.

Do you mean to cut them and bend them round so they make a similar shape to the original spacer, i shall have a look-see at this later on, thankyou

I cut them to match the shape of the hole I wanted to block off, which was the whole bottom of the slot, they are not under a huge amount of force at all, but you need to make sure they are cut really accurately so there can be no possibility of escape!
