Long term project - Pace?

Go on then, Explosif as done as it is going to be. Tomac is my modern full suss toy. What about a long term project? Being old means I need to think of things for people to buy me for birthdays and I am sure over a couple of years I could build up a fair stock of kit for something special - but what is special?

I fancy a Pace, always have, something quality, hardtail defo. Everything else can be collected over the months/years. Would love Cooks Cranks on it, apart from that, I want to use the thing, so I will mix functionality with tradtion as I see fit. This will be my dream bike - the new stuff is sooo cool, but not a dream. Want something that I can tart with colours - sad but why compromise?

Recommendations for frames please.

Cooks cranks on a pace? Bullseyes if youre going RC100 fella

If youre looking for a long term project then yep Pace is good as itll take you bloomin ages to find all the relevant bits unless you get lucky and buy a whole bike that just needs tlc.

What about a Salsa? Colourful and looks good with the Cooks. I like Paces but have never associated them with colour.

Salsa was never really part of my past - there is no connection for me. I always lusted over an RC200, bought RC35s as my first sus fork and still have my single Pace chain ring from '94!

How easy are these things to get off road in competant fashion? See I kinda reckon a mid-90s bike is more than enough for me - I will never be extreme and I hate racing, so I can live without a 100mm fork, for example.

Of course, I also lusted after an Ozone CO2 e-stay, so that does not say much about my taste!

Id say theyre pretty easy to get sorted so you can trust them off road, thanks to the parts and knowledge on here.Only thing im finding difficult to adjust to is going from discs/V-brakes back to canti's,lol

I don't go fast enough to worry about braking, and not too worried about making it authentic, so would go with Vs if I could.
