Long-sighted

Apparently from approx age 40, the lens goes through some changes that finish after a few years.. this is why long-sightedness is quite common in the over 40's. . .

Guess I'm quite lucky - from age 16 to 35 I was up close and personal with computer screens, mostly on 12 hour shifts...
Not that I'm any expert on this, but my understanding from several discussions with opticians...

Over time, the lens in the eye becomes "stiffer" plus the controlling muscles can degenerate. As a result any existing myopia can improve, and likelihood of hyperopia increases, as it does for presbyopia with age.

It's the latter that I think is probably that middle ground in vision, that isn't strictly speaking long-sightedness, or short-sightedness, that tends to be covered in employers asking in forms about prescriptions specifically for VDU work.
