building up a nice old bike top notch and need some advice about long drop brakes for mudguard clearance...there are some ultegra ones, that look good and function well, and then these ones made by VO grand cru...has anyone any experience. they look terrific and apparently work well too ( a bonus)...can they be run with normal ergo sti shifters/campy ones? thanks guys.

don't know the VO brakes, but I have the Ultegras and they're really very good. Been using them for a few years now. :D

A couple of things about the Ultegras: no problems using them with the wide Esge/SKS m'guards, but if using a tyre wider than 700 x 28, you will probably have to deflate the tyre slightly when you want to remove the wheel (although this varies depending on the width of the rim and the actual tyre).

oh, and they are much more powerful than old Record sidepulls! which can be useful if you regularly ride anywhere hilly.
