I'm looking for a new job at the moment, maybe it's time London had a RetroBike Shop?!? It'd definitely make getting up easier and you guy's all get 10% off!

 Does Jez know your thinking of setting up in competition :P

You can never have too many bike shops!

I would use Cycle Surgery round the back of Spittalfields next to the cotswold shop, i.e not the new one near the Evans..

There's a couple of guys in there (not the manager, he's a pr8ck) who are really good. One guy (name escapes me) sold me my genesis and he was top notch, the guy with the tattoos is good too...

Last week I was in a shop and asked the Guy:
"I need a bottom bracket, older square taper and not a 68 but a 70. It would be great to get a Un53 or better in the region of 118 to 122 width"

And he said: "73 you mean a 73."

WOW! Just phoned them on your advise and they actually have a few of the parts I'm after! If I'd have known that yesterday when I was i evans opposite I'd have been a happy chappy!

Cheers!

p.s take a look at the tyres you sold me, there's a picture on the kona images page of my 1990 all built up!

yeah I saw it, looks good and the tyres are soooo cool... kind of like my bikes camp brother..

Actually trying to shift my Explosif as just too small, will be a sad day when it goes..

Condor is great for road bikes but MTBs, I don't think they're quite as keen. It's also my closest shop to work but I have mixed feelings. If you don't know the right terminology in there they can make you feel a bit stupid! Having said that they have removed a BB in the past for only about a fiver and they are willing to spend the time on you. It's often hard to not whip out your credit card when you get the magpie syndrome with all the pretty, pretty shiny things in there!

On recollection, true on all counts :D . I only used them for consumable "stuff", clothes etc - not maintenance. The "condescension" seems to vary greatly depending on who you talk to, and not all of them suffer from it. They're all knowledgeable & will help out (sourced me some cablestop inserts). Only prob is if you go at a lunchtime it's often packed!

James,

is MArcus still there. Quiet guy, nice chap, wears glasses. ?

He was the buyer for a while.

You mean Markus? With a K!

Top man. If you needa a giggle, simply refer to him as Mole*

*When he takes his glasses off, he looks like Mole from Wind in the Willows.

BTW, hello, retrofolks, been lurking for a bit, but thought I'd post here! Mainly because I was the chap that gave Markus his first break in the bike world when I hired him to work in my shop in Covent Garden.

Hello all!
