For my car...

Many moons ago I fitted some cheapo locking wheelnuts to keep swmbo happy, and today I find out the car needs new brake discs to pass its MOT.
Surprise surprise the key for the wheelnuts has vanished :x

The locking wheelnuts in question look similar to these...

I don't think I can get a typical nut remover around the outside of these locking wheelnuts, just not enough room.

What are my options?

plenty of penetrating oil and see if you can hammer a socket over it and then undo them? I've done it a couple of times like that and in one case drilled the head of the nut/bolt off!
or take it into a local garage as they should have the kit for removeing the nuts!
or buy a set!

you may need an impact driver though! or an air gun! to make life easier

hmmm... no room i think to get anything over or around it. The non-locking nuts use a 19mm hex drive to remove them, the locking ones have a different design, but the locking key fits inside the nut.

long shot - bottom bracket removal tool or similar? get a cheapo one and hammer that in...?? only thing is you might get it stuck. therefore may need to buy one for each nut

i guess these are "tuner" type bolts wint an internal drive.

best bet is to try and weld a nut onto the end of it then you can use a socket.

or scrap the car.

There are special tools for this as listed above. Unfortunately brute force is the only remedy.

I had a brainwave today, I remembered that they are Grayston Locking Tuner wheelnuts :D it came to me whilst browsing the web for locking wheelnuts & removal tools.

I wonder if all Grayston locknuts use the same key (exactly)? maybe worth buying another set to see if the key will fit. If not then I'll have some new locking nuts to fit on when the time comes. :)
