One of my bikes which has been doing lockdown duties, the purple haze 1990 GT Karakoram.
The idea of the build started from basically putting the u-brake on and thinking it would look good with a black and silver theme.
I had some spare Deore LX parts and some Deore shifters and brake Levers and a later pair of 8 speed Deore LX wheels with purple nipples which i just set up to run 7 speed.
Here's some pics.

Thanks for the comments on the GT just ordered a couple of parts for a final touch which have been niggling me that they weren't on the bike.
Here's another of my lockdown bikes i've been using for some local wagon way riding.
1989 Cannondale Red Shred with basically full XT, it did have a XT chainset but the crank arms being 175mm and this having a high bb made my knees come up to much. So i switched them over to a set of 170mm Deore ll cranks which are better. The other downside to the high bb is the seatpost is set near its max which i don't like doing, so ordered a longer 400mm one for a bit of safety for the frame. I never bothered with polishing the parts etc because my long term plan is to respray it and make it look like the 88 model instead, apart from rear spacing there basically an identical frame and fork.

Both bikes look great. Regarding the GT wheelset, do you mean you're running an 8 speed cassette as a 7 speed?

Thanks they've been good workhorses on lockdown.
With the wheels on the GT it has the 8 speed cassette on but all i done was set the the limit screw on the rear mech so it won't go into the biggest sprocket,so the second sprocket is 1st if you get what i mean. The Deore shifter has the ghost 8th click but it wasn't having it trying to do 8 speed so just i just set it for 7.

Yes, I get what you mean. I ask as the wheels I want to put on my bike have an 8 speed cassette but the shifter is only 7 so I will adjust the rear mech to suit. Do I get to choose which sprocket I lose i.e. 1st or 8th?

I suppose you could set it either way, i prefer to keep the smaller sprocket because you can go faster 😁

Loving the Shred Chris.

I have an 88 frameset I'll be selling soon, if you want to keep that one as is - it makes the paintwork on yours look pretty though!
