llama's stupid questions thread

no name or logo to be found anywhere on them. kind of a handy idea, tho...
Apart from the big alphanumeric LU-908 (ish) on them?
Or looks that number.
That's a Wellgo code, but could be under other names as a rebranded of Wellgo.

If you search wpd-998 you'll see their spd binder in red that is the same.

thx, lads - any idea how old they are? they came on my '97 HOT & just may keep them if they are period correctish...otherwise I'll probly just end end up slapping on a pair of Chesters.

can a guy use a front chainring designed for 9 speed w/an 8 speed rear cassette? am assuming it should work, just wondering if it will affect performance somehow?

ok, so I just bought some brand new hoops for my "modern" bike - a 2013 Explosif - and was rather pleased to discover that my old wheels actually had tubes in them, so, my stupid question is this : do I still need to tape the rims? old hoops are taped, just wondering if I absolutely have to drive 210km to acquire a roll of rim tape. and thx again in advance, lads...

Yes. Taping the rims will protect the tubes from rubbing against the spoke holes in the rim bed, or depending on the design of the rim and length of the spoke, possibly rubbing against the end of the spoke. So yes, tape the rim.

No. There is mail order - let someone else do the driving.

Seriously though... Taping a rim for a tube isn't the same as taping a rim for tubeless. You don't need to create an airtight seal, you just want to protect the tube from abrasion.

In theory, "any" tape strong enough will work. Hell, I've used electrical insulation tape. Packing tape, strapping tape or outdoor masking tape will do the job if you can't get your hands on good old fabric rim tape.
