Liyang ?

I'm pretty sure, well as sure as I can be that I posted a carbon liang I saw on ebay last year similar to the british eagle pro carbon..seemed nice

I had an AL550 in around 92/3. I rode it for miles on and off road, lots of climbs and even more decents, and it was sound and tough.

Mine came with factory steel forks I think, and I fitted mainly DX components.

Not too much more I can say, it was my first alloy frame, was miles better in every respect than the Dawes One Track that it replaced and was eventually replaced with a Zaskar LE in 94.

I'm arriving a bit late to this, but I'm familiar with Liyang around the early 90s as I worked for the importer.

I found this as I'm thinking of selling my Liyang AL750, as far as I know the only formaly to come to the uk. It's the full XT version of the ali frame.

Give me a shout if you still have questions on those bikes from that era.

Cool:-D

And welcome to Retrobike! I see you are just down the road from me!

So any cool tales / pics from back in the day?

Yeah Hydorah, not a million miles away. I'm in Exeter every now and then for work.

Defo no pictures from back then, mainly on account of how I looked in hind sight.

I'm just getting back on the bike so no great tales that have surfaced so far. Doing Cycle Expo and quietly having the lightest MTB (as far as I could tell) there was quite cool. I would say that only about 10% of people who looked at the bike had any idea it was special and probably only 20 people that plucked up the gumption to ask and find out more. It was very trick in it's day, old hot now, but at 19lb 8oz would still be a light bike.

BTW, nice collection you have. Unfortunately I've only been alloud to by a new bike on the promis that I will sell my old one to recoupe a few quid and make the space.

The later Al lugged half carbon edition was made in China, there were plenty of NOS available in China 6-7 years ago, 1' inch headtube , sold for about $80.
From the design, I think they copied form Giant Cadex, and Cadex copied
form Koga Miyata?
