Evenin' all. I'm trying to put this Orange Prestige back together as some of you will know. It's a 93 I think and I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what was used to clamp the seat post on them originally. On mine the pieces on the frame that locate the bolt taper slighty towards each other so when i tried a standard stainless bolt as a temperary measure it didn't sit right and locked up in the frame, resulting in me having to shear the bolt off to remove it. Any ideas?

Originally it would have been fitted with a normal QR bolt. Any should work. (They were silver if that matters).

Prestiget

Think these had a shimmed post, so wondering if the captive clamp has been over tightened on a smaller diameter post? Captive clamps can be a pain and if they do that and sods for scoring seatpost, particularly ob steel frames. If its the recessed allen bolt "captive clamp" type, the worst thing you can do is use a QR bolt, they always deform the clamp and pinch the post. What type of clamp is it? Any pictures?

Orangey bit

The clamp parts on the frame aren't recessed and look like you could just put a standard 6mm bolt through. I had a 26.8 post to start with but that was definately too small,27.2 slipped in easy enough so I don't think anything is to bent. Area just looks like it needs some washers/spaces with a slight taper cut on one side to square things up to tighten the bolt onto. in the past i would have stuck a screwdriver in the clamp holes to square them up,but i'm older and wiser than that now!!

Clamp

Is there enough tube showing above the seat tube, to cut it down and put a non captive clamp on? I've done this with other frames, if the slot is nice and long? Also does it have a notch in one side for the binder key to slot into? My Look frame has no recess, but still has a notch and internal pinch bolt.
Trouble with external bolts is they don't fit snug inside the holes to stop the wings deflecting in under pressure, so "nip" as opposed to compress the joint all the way around, this puts a lot of pressure on the post in one place and can split it.

No,no,no...

There's no way i'm cutting the frame.I'll just make up the spacers at work and maybe use an m5 instead of m6 bolt to provide a bit more clearance.
