I'm new here and that's because I just won on ebay what I believe is a '97 Zaskar frame. I don't have any proper pics yet as it only finished this morning. However I am keen on getting the parts to build it up, I should be able to borrow some Judy DHs from a mate until I can get hold of some SL's I also have a couple of wheels that will go on it so I don't have loads to get.

What I do need to buy includes a crankset, front mech and seatpost and I need to know what sizes to buy, now Im going to probably get a square taper crankset (even tho I hated them BITD) so what size BB do I need?

Thanks all.

Hello and welcome.

The Zaskar will need a 73mm BB shell width. The BB spindle length will be determined by the cranks you are using.

The front mech will be a 31.8mm bottom pull.

The seatpost on my 97 Zaskar is 27.0mm, but they do tend to vary between 26.8 and 27.2mm.

Interesting to see some photos of it too.

Thanks, also just wondering what the Geometry is like on these bikes I cant see it listed anywhere.

Just wondering about things like Head angle, seat port angle, top tube length etc.

head angles are on the slack side, and top tube lengths the short side. on mine, i run a 135mm stem to get the length right on a 19 inch frame, on my modern mtb that same length is achieved with a 110mm stem..

Slack HA is good short TT not so much, good job I already have a c100mm Race face stem that will be going on for now.

Another question, what size seatpost clamp do I need?

Ive got most of the bits on the way for this build now, it will be a bit of a bastard build to start off just so I can get it out riding. Not sure where I will go with the whole build ultimately but hopefully I will have pics up on here in a week or so.

Nearly built now I decided to put some coil RS Recons on it instead of Judys as the performance will be better. I am waiting for a rear wheel from my mate, this one is a 24" and it turns out I don't think I have the v brake pins for the Recons so I need to try and get some of them. So not much left to do then.

That's just like mine! Very nice!

Except mine is rigid but will soon have Judy SLs on it.

Very nice.

How does it handle with modern forks though? Raises the front a bit?
