Like this - nice bike shop concept

But it sounds as if they're doing all the interesting stuff (the building/assembly) - I don't see that as a bonus. I'd rather take the bits home and do it myself in my own surroundings.

I like that a lot, something I'd love to own and run, a 'Kickstand Cyclery'.

He does say the customers vary between those who want to do it all themselves and those who are happy to watch.

It's a good way to learn maintenance skill, and to have pro tools available for each job. They may do themselves out of future maintenance service although if the customers enjoy the experience they may come back, if they don't get swayed by online parts prices.

I like the building and the decor, it looks like a nice environment. Probably a good place to meet friends and riders doing what they do.

+1
Yeah ,i dont liked this either.Implies screwing or bolting bits onto a frame as something akin to mysticism.
Dont make it out to be something its not or before we know it they'll be charging £14500 for a commuter

How many cycles will the aveage person own in a lifetime? Not many.
Not a lot will be enthuiasts either so its a good way for those that have some interest to see what goes into their bike.

to a lot of people, swapping out brake pads or a handlebar is as much as they feel comfortable with.

to see a pro install a headset, BB, set chain length, cable lengths then tweek everything to perfection would be a great experience for someone buying a custom bike rather than a customer who wants to buy a custom frame & build it up themselves.

the other thing that may be relevant here is space. if their clients are city dwellers, the chances are a lot won't have space to build their own bike up in a rented apartment / room so an opportunity like this would be something that may make them choose shopping there as opposed to somewhere different.

Guy has been at it a couple of years?

Dude is an architect?

Must be something wrong with the world when an architect is running a bike shop.

Talking heaps of pish as if he was forging samurai swords doesn't change that.

(Jealous)
