Lightweight tubs

I'm building a bike as light as I can, it will have tubulars and I've seen these tyres are the lightest by far:

Of course it states they are track tyres. Would they hold up to infrequent light sunday rides on good surfaces? is the issue that there is next to no rubber and in turn quick to wear out? that wouldn't matter with the very low miles they would get.

If yes, I still have to get over the price

Shame there doesn't appear to be any nos mid '80's vittorias about.

Looking back at the 70's I wouldn't dare use silk track tubs on the road as they were designed for wooden boards. Even the concrete volodromes made people think twice :)

think most of the TT lads especially Alf Engers rode silk 6 oz track tubs, the road version were 8oz and they made a lovely noise as you rode along...

I often used Wolber Pista tubs for riding 10 mile TTs. Never rode them in the wet or on anything other than A roads. Had very few problems. But then I was 65 Kilos wringing wet so not exactly putting them under stress.

True. Engers, Cottington, Payne, McQeeen and the like road lightweight tubs :)

Not many of us in Hull Thursday Road Club did though LOL

Thanks, that's a great weight but I forgot to add they need to look period with a gumwall.
Shawn.

Thanks for the other replies. Am I right in thinking it's dodgy using pista tubs on the road is just down to the fact they have next to no tread? I would only be using them lightly on good surfaces and of course never in the wet. Oh, I don't weigh alot, I'm a skinny racing snake too
