Light tyres

My Scott is in need of new tyres. I'd love to run some amber wall Ritcheys as per original spec but alas they are rare and expensive. So I'm thinking this is going to be a bike for riding so I'd like to put on some nice light tyres to improve my riding experience.

Research tells me Conti Supersonic innertubes are a good bet for saving some weight as are the Supersonic tyres or Schwable Furious Fred.

The bike will only experience light off road use so some grip will be fine rather than knobblies or dedicated slick tyres.

I rode furious Fred's at the peaks meet over the weekend......crap on mud but in all other areas they made a fat, ageing father of three feel 20 and slim again!......noticeably lighter and more agile!.....

Panaracer Fire XC Pro 1.8's work really well, even in mud!

Consistantly blown away by how much grip Race King Supersonics give and they're silly light & fast Not cheap though...

I have used or am using a couple of different Schwalbe tyres on different bikes; check the specs, as most are available in light versions.

For general all round use, the XC Fire Pro is hard to beat. Although, if you can find some Schwalbe Smart Sam's, then they are also well worth having, I have done a lot of on/off road miles on mine, and they are still working well and looking good.

I have Kenda 26 x 2.00 John Tomac signiture lites not for mud but very good at everything else, these weigh 420 grams and I too have a conti supersonic which makes the wheels very light.

These supersonics weigh around 80 grams but this combination punctures easily. Conti do a slightly stronger tube called a 'light' I think which I have found to be better. This comes in at around 100 grams compared to a bog standard tube at around 200grams.

I find that these conti light tubes also save a lot of space in bike bags.

innertubes are up to you. the expense of supersonics is only worth it if you do not go near thorns. else there are some other light onnertubes which are similar. biggest problem is finding light tubes to for the modern 2.25 width
personally anything 150g or less is good enough. and I have lighter but found no benefit. you can pick some nice Kenda at wiggle if I've got the brand right.

tires well 450g or less is light. schwalbes ron's and racket will get you there even at 2.25"
it as you want little tread it should be easier. downside is even thinner thorns will puncture them.

the except pro are fine but drag on smooth ground and road even compared to other all weather tires.

scwalbe Ralph's will gibe you use off-road and roll well on road are are light even in the budget performance 2.25 so comfy as well.
otherwise really it try and see.

My bike now feels at least 5kg lighter than before
The web says the weight is 566gr per tyre. So i guess Race Kings 2.2 are indeed lighter.
