Thanks for that. I followed up and apparently current tiagra flat bar levers are switchable

So I’ve bough these!

Can always send them back if no good

Bargain, I might stock up on some

Think originally it was an Alivio MC16 which Shimano dusted off and just rebranded to slip in the Tiagra gruppo; clever in a way, no need to design anything new and they probably had all the tech documents and machines in the archives.

Don't know. Everytime I had them (think there was an LX similar?) they were the most ergonomically retarded design with a sharp pressed steel metal unfinished edge that in comparison made holding a cheese grater more appealing.

Plus I never really figured out what those settings actually did despite fiddling with them. If that is not enough there was some stupid latch system to thread the cable as far as I can recall.

Not a fan then?

No. I mean just how and who managed to get that through a peer review at Shimano HQ is beyond any comprehension.

I mean how could you just put a fooking dimple / rivet right in the middle of a lever ????

Now I've worked myself into a tizzy and need to go to the drinks cabinet and dim the lights for a while. The horror.

Just to wrap this up, should anyone be interested, here is the Kona Fire Beinn

Actually turned out to be a great little bike, touch weighty but rides great, and will be even better as she gets older
