Hmmmmmmm so you put up a very collectable bike, all goes well someone wants to buy it... Only there in Europe, you've never sent to Europe before..... So your a bit cautious and in 2 minds ( damage cost speed etc) then someone from the UK 20 miles down the road mails says there very interested........you explain its provisionally sold. But its up to you if you want a look as I'm bit concerned about sending to Europe.... They come over have a look love it..... Message you more than a few times saying how much they want it. You express your concerns to the foreign buyer...... It starts to dwindle. The UK buyer says he really really wants it and will pay cash......I won't let you down. Ill be over the weekend. Then the night before after takes your address says they'll be over then in the course of a conversation slowly slowly slowly pulls out. youve let your foreign buyer go...... Lets you down says they dont want it. Why put your faith in someone whos gonna do this kind of thing.

Re:

This might sound harsh but

Rule 1 of sales .... nothing is sold until it’s sold. First person to pay buys it and up until that point. Don’t hold items , or count on anyone you’ve not dealt with before.

If I had a £1 for every person that says they will have something and never heard from again

In the motor trade it’s called the “Be - back bus”

Re:

I get it....... Yeah but to encourage me to dissaude another buyer..... I even remember saying i cut be cutting my own throat here....... No i wont let you down and to message night before and get details even say see you tommorow....... Then hmmmmmm then bails out. Proper shit behaviour if I'm honest.

Re:

I totally agree it’s bad behaviour

I’ve been 18 years in sales and maybe it’s made be a little bitter but like I said people don’t care and you have to look after your best interests whilst acting fairly.

In terms of bike parts/bikes I only class as sold once it’s paid. Unless I know the buyer or we make a arrangement. People get buyers remorse and you wouldn’t believe if I told you how many from this very forum mess me about.

There is some very very good guys on here and I always try to go above and beyond for them but there is more and more bad. I have what I call my Houdini list - as they are masters of disappearing.

I’d put it on eBay if you haven’t. I know eBay has a bad reputation for time wasters but I find the opposite is true.

Re:

This is such a minefield, I agree. And not easy. I think your ‘dreamers’ in the title is very apt.

People jump in without thinking about the impact on the seller, who has to email, do photos, expend time etc. I once worked gratis in a retail shop as support to the owner and could not believe the time-wasting there either.

I have had so many instances of people who have said ‘please hang on to this frame/crankset etc until I have the money available...no surprise the items are still here after a year. But conversely there are cast iron people on here and in the cycling community. Dibs, good communication and fast payment. Quick and balanced resolution of any issues, such as delayed postal service. Fortunately, these solid and dependable people are in the majority.

Re:

I get it all.......... I've been around bikes long enough... And this UK buyer quite a collector. But to not a raise a concern a couple days before knowing i was letting another cast iron buyer down even though it would be a difficult transaction being europe based. Even message me 12 hours before ask all details and say see you in the morning.
Do these let's call em " in two minds buyers " I won't use the correct term. If your in two minds you really shouldn't do all you can....... To cost someone a cast iron deal. Because your putting yourself forward as the same. Knowing you got doubts.
Some people there probably lurking in all forums.

Re:

There probably reading this.........feeling a little guilty as soon as they pulled out blocked Facebook all messages and the usual stuff so you can't even express your consternation at such behaviour.
