I did admit that earlier.. somewhere on page 1.. :?

I'm not anti-drugs.. just a bit shocked at the stupidity of some people..
Am I the only one, looking back, who wonders how the hell I'm still here? :?

Yes, and no! If the media intepretation of drug users was accurate then, yes. We should all be dead, or suffering psychoses of one form or another. In reality, the huge majority of rec. drug users either stop, or maintain a moderate level of consumption that is easily compatible with maintaining their place in society. I'd be very surprised if the numbers of people taking class A's at weekends wasn't in the millions, and the majority of these people will quite easily hold a regular job without any problems. These same people don't appear on the Police's radar or the media radar regularly and so "get away with it" (for want of a better phrase).

The problem with the drugs trade recently seems to be that dosages and mixing substances are hugely varied so it's probably easier to poison yourself these days than it was in the past.

Why are people so dumb that they'd have a bash at anything for a kick??

I think that to. Just look at the state of the world. And here in the rich west are doing this when the rest of the world has major problems.

Sounds logical..

But.. given that one legal high (Mephadrone) killed, so did it's successor Meow Meow and now Ivory Wave has too.. and all well publicised - none of that friend of a friend knew a dog who chased a cat that was owned by a bloke whose head fell off.. wouldn't you think a bit more than twice before ingesting??

I love the stupidity of some of the comments in the press yesterday following the talk if de-criminalizing drugs.

One chap said 'it's not the Heroin that's the problem, it's the prohibition' So are we saying that it doesn't affect you physically?

By all means do drugs if you want to but smack heads infringe on the rest of us by scamming and trying to steal everything in sight to fund their habit :(

Yep, I certainly would, but then I'm a bit older and wiser nowadays. I'd also want to be certain the source of anything I procured was up to my usual high standards. Not to mention the moral issues of actually supporting the drugs-trade.

Back when I was involved in that scene though, I was a a bit younger and therefore by definition invincible, naive and innocent (in certain areas). I've no problem empathising with why folk choose to go down this route, it certainly doesn't make it a wise, safe or sensible choice though.

Actually I remember the whole Leah Betts thing back in the mid-nineties (can't believe that was 15 years ago). That was attributed to ecstasy. It subsequently turned out to be water intoxication, related to, but not directly caused by pill-popping. It wouldn't surprise me if the truth of the latest fatalities and injuries isn't along similar lines. Doesn't sell many papers though...

BTW - Sorry to be pedantic, but I think methadrone and meow meow are one and the same.

That chap could be partially correct, but it depends on your point of view. There have been cases of heroin users who have led what most people would call 'normal' lives, though they seem to be quite a small number of the entire heroin-user population.

Moderate use of opiates doesn't appear to carry many significant long-term clinical effects. The trouble is, they're addictive, and as users build up tolerances more is required to get the same high. So higher doses start to impact on the user physiologically, not to mention the health risks associated with ingestion method, dodgy equipment and poor quality heroin itself.

On a population level, it probably is the prohibition that causes more damage. We (as a society) could probably save a lot more users (and crime victims associated with those users) from addiction, injury and death if it was legal and regulated. Plus we'd have a lot more resources to plough back into other problems.

'Course, none of this is to say that smack-heads won't steal and scam to fund their habits if it was legal, just look at the number of alcoholics who do just that.

They just came up in sequence on the news, not up on kiddy culture (never really have been  ) . . which I rarely watch but I was up stoopid early this morning and had to do something quietly

I remember young and invincible (just) but there's so much more info available now..

NEWS FLASH

'Date 18th August 2010

2 New drugs have been introduced onto the market

Nicotine - smoked or chewed
Alcohol - Drunk as a liquid

Due to the harm that these substances do to the body both have been classified as Class A under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.

Nicotine a substance which is actually more poisonous than both Arsenic and Strychnine has crept onto the recreational scene with many unscrupulous late night establishments actually catering for users in part of their Beer Gardens !!

The latter, alcohol, is one of only 2 controlled substances that will actually kill you if once addicted you go 'cold turkey' (The other is Benzodiazepines if you're interested)

The Government is concerned that cries from the Legalise Alcohol and Nicotine Party may result in Hundreds of Thousands of Addicts.'

Seems like a Joke, but if both these substances were invented today they would both be classified as Class A. That's the same as Opiates, Cocaine and even Magic Mushrooms. Alcohol wrecks lives, seen it with my own eyes. Yet you can still buy one get one free at your local supermarket.

What many people don't realise are these simple facts. We will NEVER stop people taking a substance that makes them feel good
If the DEMAND is there then a SUPPLIER will come forward

The problem that we get is that Suppliers are often involved in criminality from low level right up to and including International Terrorism. With all seriousness Legalise the lot. The Government can impose safety guidelines / quality assurance, make money from taxation and deprive the criminals from the loot.

Makes sense

Or you can just pop into Tesco and get 200 Lamberts and a bottle of JD :(
